This unique product originated in 1908 in a small factory in Chicago, Illinois. Great-Grandpa Leo Reed set out to produce a product that would have the same effect on a surface scratch as the meat of an almond.
He knew that it was not always convenient to have almonds on hand, so he created a product that would blend the scratched area with the surrounding finish, just as an almond would do if rubbed on a scratch. |
| Thus the Amazing “Tibet Almond Stick“. At first, it was sold only for industrial use, such as moving companies. Eventually it worked its way into furniture stores, hardware stores, mail order catalogs and other home improvement stores.
The book at the right was written by Leo Reed around 1900. It was recently discovered in a backroom at the plant. We’re kicking around the thought of having it “reprinted.” It could be an excellent source for refinishing antiques using the methodology of that time period.
